On the Farm 4/8: Asparagus!

This week we started planting our new asparagus crowns. After beds were made, trenches were dug down the middle. We amended the soil with worm castings and micro-nutrients…

…and then laid out the bare-root crowns in the trenches before burying them.

Don’t worry about them being buried, as asparagus are self-leveling, and will grow to the right position on their own. Unlike most of the crops on the farm, asparagus is a perennial plant, and we will likely keep these plants for as much as 15 years.
